Every day I am amazed at how much the kids have grown up, and today was no different. They are such independent and confident 2 (going on 3) year olds. There is nothing more wonderful than hearing them laugh with excitement or watching their eyes grow big and their smiles spread across their face as they see and experience new things (or familiar things in new ways). It's the beauty and essence of childhood, and I think the pictures/video capture a piece of that.
First up, Anne graciously agreed to swap hats with Jaydon; thus, the tie-dyed pink hat atop his head. Jay used all his powers of persuasion with Anne until she finally gave in. Thanks, Anne! You have the COOLEST hat!
We decided to take a stroll around the park first. Our thought being that if we started with the rides, we would never make it around the park. This was a wise choice. The kids were so excited about the rides - they loved them! On our stroll, we wandered through a tractor exhibit. There were tractors old and new, of all shapes, sizes and colors. Jaydon thought all the tractors were pretty cool. We also visited the various farm animals in their respective barns, which the kids were only mildly interested in. A year ago, the tractors and the animals were probably Jaydon's favorite things at the fair. Then we stopped to visit Kurt and Anne's friend and neighbor at his Caterpillar (the construction equipment kind) stand. Jay and Anne were given free reign on the equipment! From Jaydon's perspective, this was totally awesome!
Anne, the daredevil, opted to do the Flying Swing ride and Baja Buggy ride for her last two rides. Jaydon, on the other hand, had his eye on the Jeep ride. He rode it once, and had such a blast that he decided to ride it again, for his last ride of the day.

So this "growing up" thing really hits me hard these days and it happens more often than I would like. Today, when Jaydon got on board the train and rode off on his own, was one of those moments. I felt so proud of my big boy. He went on all the rides by himself. He handed the attendants his tickets on his own. Then he went through the entry gates on his own, without even looking back to see if I was there (I like to think he was confident enough to know that I was there). When he needed help getting on a ride or buckling in, the attendants (not me) helped him, and he was happy with their help. Once on the ride, he'd look over at me...simply beaming! Then he'd wave, with a look that said, "Look at me, Mom! I'm riding!" Makes me smile just thinking about it all. I love being a Mom!
A great big thanks to Kurt and Anne for getting us tickets to the fair! We had such a fantastic time!
