Jay's got a lot to talk about these days, and he'll talk (and talk and talk) to anyone who will listen. He gets so excited about stuff! At times he's very animated and sometimes he's very serious and focused when he talks.

He's always very animated when he uses the phrases above. One of my favorite times when he's very animated, but not necessarily super talkative, is when he greets Brian when he comes home from work. You hear this extremely happy and cheerful, "Hi Dad!" The greeting is so sincere and heartfelt. Saying the simplest things, Jaydon has the awesome ability to make you feel so completely wonderful! There's absolutely nothing better than that.

When he's serious and focused, he could go on and on. We were at the library a couple of weeks ago, and Jay cornered one of the librarians. First, he described to her how he had lined up all the DVDs on the bookshelf for her. Then he rambled on about polar bears, flowers (sunflowers, daisies, and dandelions specifically), golf, and volcanoes...his life's passions...barely taking any breaths as he spoke. As he rambled on, I heard say "pyroclastic flow". In my mind, I was thinking, "What?! Is he really talking about pyroclastic flow?" He was. If you don't know what "pyroclastic flow" is, ask Jaydon. He would love to tell you all about it.

It's fascinating and amazing what STICKS in his mind. Polar bears, flowers, golf, volcanoes...these aren't your typical 2-year-old interests, right?!

Let me take it one step further with just one topic and describe how it's an integral part of Jaydon's life. Let's take golf...

When Jay and I were at the playground today, he spent 90% of his time with a stick practicing his golf swing. When I would try to talk to him, he would say, "Don't talk, Mommy". The other 10% was spent playing on the playground or looking for a new stick to practice his swing.

We don't play catch in our yard, we play golf. I hit the ball to Jay and he hits it back to me - over and over and over again. He's really good at this, and would be happy doing it forever. In fact, he throws tantrums when it's time for us to go inside or if we've got someplace to go (he always tries to sneak in a few swings before we depart anywhere). When we're about to head out and I'm struggling to put him in his seat, he'll plead with me and say, "Jaydon stay home and play golf." It used to be that he wouldn't pass up a ride, especially when were going some place fun, like the lake, the park, the library, or to visit one of his friends. Golf is an obsession!

Jaydon knows a lot of the pro golfers. Ask him who his favorite golfer is and he'll say Vijay (as in Vijay Singh). Why? We don't know. Unfortunately, Jaydon hasn't seen Tiger Woods play, since Tiger is out (probably for the rest of year) recovering from knee surgery.

Jay would be happy swinging a club all day and watching golf on TV. Very often you hear him say, "I need to play golf" and then we go hunting for his club and a ball. Ask him if he wants to watch golf, and he'll say, "Watch the PGA Tour. It's the Championship." Recently, we've been watching the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Championship.

Take any task and somehow Jay turns it into golf. The pita chip blog is a good example. Straws (in a restaurant), pencils, crayons, toothpicks, food. It's also amazing what he finds to use as a golf tee - just recently he discovered that the plastic nuts (as in toy nuts and bolts) from his workbench are perfect for laying his plastic golf balls on.
