Last week when Jay ran into our room completely naked, giddy and yelling, "I'm ready to change, Mom! I'm ready!", we learned that he could take his shirt off on his own. This was the first time he'd done that. He was obviously thrilled about this. Three-year-olds are so much fun to watch!
Two weeks ago, Jay put on his pants and underwear all by himself for the first time. It was the first time he'd asked to do it and the first time he had tried. Cool! We just have to watch which way the tag faces.
He's slowly getting the hang of putting on a shirt, but fumbles with it a little. Brian and I still have to help him, although he really really wants to do it himself. It's easier when the shirt fits him loosely.
As for socks, he put those on for the first time earlier this week. Again, it was a situation in which it was the first time he'd asked to do it himself and he did. I had to adjust the heel on the sock a little after he was done, but otherwise, well done. He wanted to do his shoes, too, but by then I just needed to get us out the door to get to a class on time. He can put on his slippers on his own, so I would imagine he can do his shoes, too. Get them on...not the tying part. When do kids learn to tie their own shoes?
As you can probably imagine, getting ready to go anywhere has the potential to take an awful long time. It's the "changing clothes" part of our get-out-the-door routine that requires the most time. "Go potty" used to be our slow point, but Jay's mastered that step. I just tell him to use the potty and it's done...so awesome! He's been able to go to the bathroom completely on his own for a few weeks now (although for #2, he still needs us for the wipe...that'll be exciting when he masters that move).
Since I gave up "rushing" or "being in a hurry" for Lent this year, taking it slow is just fine with me.
And did I mention that it feels like Jaydon went straight from a size 2 to a size 4 in clothes. He's grown so much in the past few months. Where's my little boy?
