Jay in Motion

Frequently we find Jay...

Slithering like a salamander (his body flat on the ground), hopping like a frog, or his recent favorite, walking like a polar bear (butt in the air and on his hands and feet). He started doing these things all on his own.

Sometimes this slows us down - slithering is arguably the slowest mode of travel for the human body. But he's become quite adept at hopping like a frog or walking like a polar bear. He can move pretty fast as a polar bear and can jump pretty far as a frog. We'll have to measure the distance he can jump so I can post it on the blog.

Also, he loves to jump off things - which we encourage (thanks to Brian) if it's done safely - boys will be boys, eh? I just have to embrace it! He's good at planting his two feet solidly on the ground after a jump, and he's successfully completed jumps from spots higher than himself (we think he's about 37 1/2" or so). One of his absolute favorite things to do is to jump off spots (ie., our bed, the couch...) into Brian's arms. Sometimes we have to remind him to make sure Daddy's looking before he does!!

Another funny thing he does is contort, shake, wiggle, move...his fingers, hands, and/or arms in any which way he can. He moves them in all sorts of funny ways, both fast and slow. He'll also run around the house with his hands behind his back or over his head, or wherever he can put them or move them, and yell, "Mom, Dad, watch this!" And off he goes. It's fun, silly, and crazy to watch! He gets so excited about it! Often times he asks Brian or I to join in. Usually, we do our best at talking our way out of it, but sometimes it's just plain fun to be a part of it.
