Jaydon's 3rd Birthday

So Old Man Winter tried to spoil Jaydon's Birthday Party AGAIN (last year we had a big ice storm and this year we had the BIG snow). Today, a light snow continued to fall, and to complicate matters further, our snow blower didn't work...ugh!

Despite the obstacles, some of our crazy, thoughtful, and wonderful friends made the party anyways! We offered sled rides down our driveway (or bring your own) to anyone who dared to show up. Thanks to Andrew, Anne, Emma, and Max for getting their parents to drive them over and making the party such a blast! Another big huge THANKS goes to our neighbor, John, for snowblowing our driveway. Brian asked if he could borrow John's snowblower to clear a path down our driveway. The next thing we knew, John was snowblowing our driveway for us - he did the whole thing! We were grateful even though really we wanted it left with some snow so we could sled down it.

Jaydon was sooo excited the whole day! He had been looking forward to his Birthday for a long time. He knew the "theme" he wanted for his party months before the big day. Can you guess what it was?

I hope you guessed "golf"...based on my attempt to make a golf ball cake. I wasn't able to make the dimples on the "ball" like I had hoped. And something to note...it's not easy finding "golf" themed party goods for a three-year-old. Golf and retirement parties seem to be the more popular combo.

Here's something else Jaydon requested for his Birthday - a volcano demonstration. Doesn't go with the "golf" theme, but it was Jay's day. He requests volcano demonstrations ALL the time when we're home, but I don't always acquiesce. When we've done them in the past, I've used a soda bottle, but for Jay's birthday we made an actual model of a volcano. We had some technical difficulties to start, but in the end everything worked out. It was a neat diversion for the kids. Some kids were a bit fearful, but Jaydon absolutely LOVED it!

I could go on and on, but there's such limited time, so my closing thought for the day will be...No matter how much you plan things, things will just be as they are, and you roll with it. How's that for being profound?! That was our mindset for the day, along with keeping things at Jaydon's pace, and in the end, we had so much FUN! We've got good memories of the day...I just wish we had been able to capture more on camera.

Birthday party over...next up Christmas and getting to Orlando!
